I will no longer recommend this show to anyone because what was once in my opinion innocent and good to eventually watch w kids has turned into EVERY other TV show out there! In Episode 3, the students' spying on the schoolteacher holding hands with an older student leads to a complicated conversation and assorted anecdotes about the "pet mouse" kept in men's front pockets which, when "touched" leads to women having "twins" -- there is a description of one of the families to whom Anne had been in service before coming to Avonlea-- in which the brutal father would get drunk on moonshine and then insist on "intimate relations" with his wife and that the ensuing ruckus from behind a curtain left Anne wondering if the woman was laughing in fun or yelling as if being murdered. Anne is written as a very unlikeable person who is seriously mentally ill. Excellently done and engaging! The pet mouse episode, the same thing happens in the book and in the Megan Follows movie and in the musical. Parent of a 6 and 8 year old Written by pixiechixs May 17, It's classic story telling lady's. This is a wonderful retelling of Anne of Green Gables. Season 2 is incredibly disappointing. The teacher has relations with mr Phillips, and in both the book and the Megan follows film and musical he is fired because of it.

Just pettiness, meanness and tragedy. Adult Written by Avid Reader2 August 3, Who ever heard of delving into the tortured, deep dark sordid past of Anne of Green Gables??? Betrayal to the original series I was so hopeful for the first season despite the exaggeration of so many scenes and Anne's horrible rudeness.

I want parents to also see that the episodes that are heighlited in this new series, are also in the books and in the movies and even the musical.

I loved how they captured Marilla's unconditional love and unbending morals, and Matthew's affection and coaching, which created the safe place for Anne, and taught her to trust again.

And that won't ever go away. Go to Common Sense Review. Not for kids I'm an aunt of a tween and a teen, both bookworm girls who do not feel compelled to think like everyone else! Just cause the musical and the Sullivan film depicted it as a low brow romance, it's still a teacher and his student having a relationship.

The acting is wooden for all the supporting players and their attitudes, cliche and predictable. Aunt of a 11 and 14 year old Written by Ruth R. Helped me decide 8.

As someone quite familiar with the book and other film adaptations including the one by Kevin Sullivan portraying a darker pre-Avonlea lifeI did not mind the new twists on the story, because to me they seemed to enhance the characters all the more.

We excitedly anticipate a second season! I watched all 7 episodes and came away thinking, this show is for middle-aged adults who once favored the film and the original story found in the books. In fact, little Anne is portrayed as the wiser person while the reverend is an unloving, dishonest, pompous hypocrite. The actress who plays Anne lacks the spark that we should see. Gilbert and Diana's characters are fantastic.

This series is just too heavy and "adult" for young girls.
